It is possible to visit the Great Wall of China without a stream of tourists on high heels and selfie sticks. You can have it almost all for yourself if you choose to hike on an unrestored “wild part” of theĀ Great Wall, such as the Huanghua Cheng section, about one and half hour drive from Beijing. This hike is short – 4 km, but challenging and bushy. Oh, and bring water, lots of it! The views from this Ming-era ramparts are breathtaking.
